Common questions about hiring a guitarist and taking lessons in San Diego
Live Music for Weddings and Events
How much does a wedding guitarist cost in San Diego?
Most weddings start around $400 and up, depending on the timeline, location, and any special requests. Factors like travel distance, number of hours, and custom song arrangements can affect the final price. Contact me for a personalized quote.
What areas do you serve for weddings and events?
I regularly perform throughout San Diego County and into North Orange County. This includes venues in La Jolla, Del Mar, Carlsbad, Rancho Santa Fe, Encinitas, Oceanside, Temecula, and beyond. For the right event, I'm willing to travel anywhere in the world.
How does the booking process work?
Short-notice bookings are sometimes possible, but the typical booking window is two weeks or more. A 50% reservation deposit and a signed contract are required upon booking, due to the opportunity cost of holding a date.
There is a small consultation fee for on-location pre-planning visits, though I normally offer a free consultation and listening session at my Vista, CA studio at no charge.
Can you learn a specific song for our wedding ceremony?
Yes! I'm always open to learning new material to make your wedding day special. Depending on the difficulty of the arrangement and the rehearsal time involved, there may be a small additional fee for custom song requests.
Do you provide sound equipment and amplification?
Yes. I provide a full AC-powered sound system, typically using one to three speakers depending on venue size and ambient noise levels. Battery-powered equipment is also available for beach weddings and outdoor locations without power access.
Sound reinforcement for officiants, toasts, and announcements can also be provided as part of the wedding music package.
How long do you typically play at a wedding or event?
For weddings, I typically play for the ceremony and cocktail hour as a soloist, which usually runs about two to three hours. Longer coverage is available, including reception music.
For larger or longer events, I can arrange duets, ensembles, or full bands to keep the music going throughout the evening. See the events page for more on what's available.
How far in advance should I book a guitarist for my event?
At least two to three weeks of lead time is recommended for most events. For summer weddings and weekend dates during peak season, booking a month or more in advance is strongly recommended to ensure availability.
Guitar Lessons in Vista, San Diego
How much do guitar lessons cost in Vista?
Lessons are currently $40 per half hour or $75 per full hour at my studio in Vista, CA. The studio is fully equipped with the instruments and resources needed for a productive lesson.
Do you teach guitar lessons to kids?
I normally start students as young as eight years old. For younger children, I can recommend colleagues who specialize in early childhood music instruction. Don't hesitate to ask!
Do I need my own guitar to start lessons?
Yes, you will need a guitar to practice on at home. Daily practice is essential to learning an instrument, especially as a beginner. If you need help choosing the right guitar for your level and budget, I'm happy to offer recommendations.
Do you offer online guitar lessons?
Yes. I teach both in-person lessons at my Vista studio and online lessons via Zoom or Skype. In general, beginners are better served by in-person instruction where technique and hand positioning can be closely guided, while more experienced players often do well with online sessions.
What styles of guitar do you play and teach?
I play and teach a wide variety of styles. My strongest areas are classical guitar, Bossa Nova, Latin, Spanish, Flamenco, jazz, and rock/pop. For performances, my repertoire also includes arrangements of popular songs, jazz standards, and original compositions.
For guitar lessons, instruction covers classical, jazz, rock, blues, fingerstyle, music theory, and sight reading.
